Research

I have had to research still life photographers for this assignment as I couldn't find anyone who photographs bouncy balls which is what I have chosen to photograph.

Dennis Pederson

I have chose to include these three images in my research because I feel they are the images from his collection that will most reflect my work, I am going to be placing my bouncy balls in random places including the fridge/freezer so the second image really relates to that aspect of my images, I have included the other tow images as they have products placed amongst a selection of objects which is what I am planning to do with my images.
I think a wide depth of field has been used to create these images as everything is in focus not just a small amount, this works well with these pieces of work as it means you can see all the detail of the products and the objects they are placed with.
I think the photographer has used a DSLR for these images, this is because they are very high quality and I don't think that it could have been achieved with a film camera. I think using a digital camera has increased the marketing effects of these images because you can really see the detail in all the images which wouldn't be quite so clear with a film camera.

Although these images don't strictly relate to my chosen topic I have included them as they use bright colours which I am hoping to do as I am buying bright coloured bouncy balls. These are the only images from his collection which include colour so they are the only two I am going to include in my research. They are also bright colours against a plain white/black background which I am going to experiment with for a few of my images in this assignment, I feel this is effective as it really brings out the colour in the objects rather than having them slightly drained out by having a colourful background aswell.
I think this photographer has also used a DSLR for these images because of the high quality and detail, I feel these have also been photoshopped, especially the top one because I don't think you could get that effect just from taking one single photo.

Mi Yong Sung

This image relates to my work because it includes bright colours which I am trying to incorporate into my work for this assignment. I think with this piece of work she is trying to show off the colour of the lanterns, she has done this by getting almost a Birdseye view of all the lanterns together on a light day, I think she has used a DSLR to get the high quality in the image, she has also used quite a narrow depth of field to get the focus on the foreground of the image.

Vladimir Shipulin

I feel that this image relates to my work because it is an object placed in a random place which is what I am going to be doing with my bouncy balls, a wide depth of field has been used to create this image, this is an effective method as it lets you see all the detail in the fish jar and the books, I also think some location lighting has been used to create this image, you can tell this by the way the light reflects through the fish jar and onto the back of the shelf, the reflections are mainly on the left hand side and directly behind and slightly above the fish jar so I think the lights are to the right and slightly below the shelf. I think a DSLR has been used to create this image however I think it is also possible that it may have been shot on a film camera as it does look slightly vintage but still a high quality.
